Paint Shop Pro Promotion

I can't find this easily on their web site, but I received an email from Corel recently offering to sell me Paint Shop Pro X for $59 and (at least) the email had an online promo link so I can show it to you. Has anyone else gotten this offer or better yet, tried the "new" product?

I found Paint Shop Pro X - Product home on the Corel site and it includes the $59 pre-order upgrade offer, shipping in early September.

As far as I can see, it's an Upgrade offer for owners of unspecified previous versions of PSP (formerly a JASC product).
There doesn't appear to be any promo for a full version, nor for owners of Corel Draw or Photo-Paint. <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15>

All of the earlier "Upgrades" I have installed, they were full blown programs and did NOT require having a earlier version installed.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Boy, I sure hope so! I remember setting up new machines at "work" with something like Homesite and having to install about four times to get to the latest version (I think it was Homesite).

Hi Dave

I've been caught before by not noticing the small print upgrade notice and have been stuck with useless software or have had to purchase an earlier version to get the upgrade to work.
Do you, or any other lounger, know for certain that this offer will work on a system on which PSP has never been installed?
I would definitely purchase PSP X if it is a full version, not requiring a previous PSP install.

But Ken, I think that "upgrade" means for qualified PREVIOUS owners of the software, in which case they're probably going to check a previous license or registration name. If you don't presently own PSP, how could you expect them to "upgrade" you to a newer version?

Re: Paint Shop Pro Promotion

Hi Al

I don't expect to be able to "upgrade" software if I don't have a previous version currently installed.
Most, if not all, upgrades that I have installed have automatically searched for an installed previous version.

However.....
Corel is not very specific on their promotions website as to whether this is, in fact, an upgrade or is a full version. Also, in my experience, an upgrade is usually only valid for a set number of previous versions. This prevents someone with version 2.0 from upgrading directly to version 10.0 for the same price as those that dutifully purchase all upgrades. No mention of valid previous versions is made on the website which might indicate that the offer is a full install and may, or may not, check for a currently installed version.

Corel may be offering a full, unrestricted version to increase their customer base after their acquisition of JASC and the subsequent wariness of JASC devotees to support Corel.

Have a Great day!!!

Re: Paint Shop Pro Promotion

If Corel runs the new version the same way Jasc did, it will be a full version in the box. I've never seen an "upgrade version" of PSP in the traditional sense of the term. They have generally offered upgrade rebates for people upgrading from a prior version of PSP or for people jumping from a competitive product such as Photoshop Elements or the like.

I just got PSP 9 from CompUSA for $20 after a $30 rebate from CompUSA and the $30 mail in upgrade rebate for switching from Photoshop Elements. Now I know why version 9 was so cheap )
