    Re: COUNT/SUM (IF) (MS-2003)

    Can you explain what you mean by
    <hr>Counting and/or summing the number of "Y","N","YY","NN",Y/N" in the array C7:S205
    based on the first letter in column Y1, the "A","N","U"<hr>
    Perhaps give an example of what the result should be?

    Re: COUNT/SUM (IF) (MS-2003)

    In the referenced array I want to count how many y/n, n, nn, y, yy there is based on the first letter in column B1. Column B1 has many names the common between the names is the first letter before the /, for example A /, N/ & U/.

    Did I succeed?
    TIA

    No.

    Can you explain where you want the results, and what they should look like?

    Re: COUNT/SUM (IF) (MS-2003)

    Here is a way, it requires some intermediate formulas:

    In W1:AA1 enter respectively, the text: Y, N, Y/N, NN, YY

    In V7 enter:
    <pre>=LEFT(B7,1)</pre>

    In W7:
    <pre>=COUNTIF($C7:$S7,W$1)</pre>

    Copy W7 to X7:AA7
    Copy V7:AA7 to V8:AA205

    This determines the starting letter and sums the number of each type for each row of data.

    in V2:V4 enter respectively the text: A, N, U
    In W2 enter:
    <pre>=SUMIF($V$7:$V$205,$V2,W$7:W$205)</pre>

    Copy W2 to W2:AA4

    This "table" (V1:AA4) should give the sum of the values you are looking for.

    Take a look at Steve (sdckapr)'s reply, I think he understood your question better than I do.
