No warnings on Table property violations! (Access XP)

    Hi,
I was working on a PC using Access XP. After I set validation rules and input masks in the table properties I saved the table and then tested it out. On violating the rule or filling only half of the mask, Access did not prompt with a warning. All that happened was that I could not exit the cell until the rule was satisfied or the mask was filled. Usually a warning comes up. I copied the DB to another PC and then the warnings appeared.

I tried looking in Access Tools Menu, Options to see if there is an option to switch off warnings...but found nothing! Does anyone have an idea of what happened? I have never seen this before??

    Tx
    Regards,
    Rudi

Just a quick question, why are you creating validation rules with input mask. Surely if the input mask is set correctly you won't need validation.

There is more than likely a conflict between your validation and what you have in the input mask

Re: No warnings on Table property violations! (Access XP)

    Hi Rudi,
The only times I have had that problem is when, in code, I've used
    Docmd.Setwarnings False
and have forgotten (or it errored out before reaching)
    Docmd.Setwarnings True

When this does happen to me I run a quick Sub whose only line of code is "Docmd.Setwarnings True".

Does Access XP have this?--> under <Options>|<Edit/Find> in the area marked Confirm are all 3 check boxes (Record changes, Document deletions, Action queries) checked?
Could possibly be that as well.
Just a guess as you stated that the Warnings are present on another machine and those settings are application-wide, not db specific.

Sorry Jerry...you are misundersatnding the query. I set validation rules on certain fields and an input mask on a code field. Together the table (over multiple fields) has a mixture of validation and input masks.

Re: No warnings on Table property violations! (Access XP)

    Hi Gary,

Unfortunately I cannot provide a sample DB to show this as it only occured on this one PC.
    Regarding your suggestions:
Docmd.Setwarnings False....there were no macros or code in the DB.
Does Access XP have this?--> under <Options>|<Edit/Find> in the area marked Confirm are all 3 check boxes (Record changes, Document deletions, Action queries) checked?....All these options were checked.

The scenario was encountered in a class training session with 4 delegates. All PC's were installed with the same DB. We went into a sample table and changes input masks and validation rules in the fields. Then, one of the 4 PC's did not show a warning when we purposfully violated the validation rules and input masks??? The other 3 PC's showed the warnings where the one simply did nothing. The person was not albe to "violate the rule", but no error showed...all they could do was edit the value or escape to delete the record. If they Tabed...it just did nothing.

Very weird. There is no setting in options to do this...hence my post in this lounge.

Any further ideas...or is this one of those PC mysteries!!!
    Regards,
    Rudi

I fear you won't find the cause of this behavior. If it's still relevant, you might test what happens if you install a fresh copy of the database on that particular PC. If the problem still occurs, even after checking all the settings mentioned in this thread, there might be something wrong with the installation of Access on this PC.

I thought as much. Tx for the reply! At least you have confirmed my suspicions!
    Still weird though!
