Re: get my heading para in the header of every page (WordXP SP2)

The STYLEREF field was designed to do exactly this.

If your paragraph format is named Heading 4 then you can include
    { STYLEREF "Heading 4" }
at the appropriate place in the header.

Insert the { } by typing Control-F9, or insert the entire field from the Insert > Field menu.

Yes, but you will need to use two different STYLEREF fields, one for the number and the other for the text.

If you use Insert > Field and scroll down to select StyleRef then you will see this dialog box which shows all the available options.

get my heading para in the header of every page (WordXP SP2)

Edited by StuartR to crop the image so it takes up a bit less space

    Hello

On every page of the Word documnet the first instance of the heading style 4 paragraph they would like in the header. see screen example.

I was thinking to have a section break between each page & that pages header >turn off the headers same as previous.
    1. I could either insert the paragraph by inserting cross references as
    Numbered item - para num
    Heading - heading text
    or
    2. the users can manually type the heading into the header or
    3. create a bookmark around the heading & insert the cross refence to the bookmark.

    The issue is:
if the user continues to edit the document , this will mean the text and headings will get pushed down. Resulting in a new numbered heading paragraph for that page eg 1.1.3 another heading & the section breaks will have to be reset.

    Question:
Is there a way to insert the numbering and text as one cross reference?
Is there an easier way to do this?

    many thanks diana
