    Convert picture file (2003)

Now that Office 2003 doesn't have Photo Editor, is there a way to open a picture in email, and save it as a different file type? I know I could do this through paint, but it would be really nice if this could be done right from the email attachment. (I can't re-install PE as this is a work computer and I don't have access to previous versions of Office).

    TIA.

    Deb

Sorry Hans, I should have specified.

Pictures currently open with MS Picture Manager which doesn't seem to give an option to do a "save as".

Open Windows Explorer to a folder containing some graphics files.
Right-click one of them, say a .jpg file.
Select Open With | Choose Program... from the popup menu.
Select the program you would like to use from the list, for example Paint or IrfanView. If it is not in the list, click Browse...
Tick the check box "Always use this program to open this type of file".
    Click OK.
Repeat for other file types you want to treat the same way, for example .gif and .png.

If everything goes right, the pictures should now open in the selected program from an e-mail too, instead of in MS Picture Manager.

    Re: Convert picture file (2003)

Office 2003 has an application called Microsoft Office Picture Manager that replaces Office PhotoEditor in the previous versions. Office Picture Manager can show pictures and slideshows from pictures, edit pictures and save them in the same or different format. Note: to save a picture in Picture Manager in different format, use File | Export option instead of File | Save As.

Shortcut to Office Picture Manager is in Programs | Microsoft Office | Microsoft Office Tools by default.

Thank-you Hans and Kaplinb. Very helpful.

Kaplinb, I didn't know Microsoft changed their ways in this program with "export to" instead of "save as"...guess they don't want us to get too comfortable <img src=/S/brainwash.gif border=0 alt=brainwash width=15 height=15>
