selecting from a list and filling out the rest (excel)

I have a work book here which has a column of data on one sheet and on sheet 2 a drop down list which picks the the values from the description colomn on sheet 1.
my problewm is when I choose something from the description menu I have no Idea how I can fill out the rest of my my cells for that row under Od Weight Grade Burst and capacity.
Do I use the offset function?

You can use a VLOOKUP formula that looks up the value selected in the drop down list, and returns the value from the appropriate column.

Maybe instead of nameing a whole list name use a header name.

    try
    =IF(ISERROR($C8),"",OFFSET(CasingHdr,'Casing Dims'!B2,2))

    hi there Seaner,

Try the Vlookup Hans was tlking about it works better

heres a little lesson on how I understand V lookup,

in your formula Box type this
    =VLOOKUP(C8,'Casing Dims'!A1:F42,2)
this will make you sheet work but learn how to do this for next time.

    VLOOKUP(LOOKUP_VALUE,TABLE_ARRAY,COL_INDEX NUMBER)

LOOKUP_VALUE: THE VALUE YOU WANT TO LOOKUP WITH

TABLE_ARRAY: THE ARRAY YOU WILL SEARCH

COL_INDEX NUMBER: THE COLUMN NUMBER WITHIN YOUR ARRAY

Re: selecting from a list and filling out the rest (excel)

You're looking for an exact match, not an approximate one, so you must add FALSE (=do not approximate) as 4th argument to each of the VLOOKUP formulas. For example in D8:

    =VLOOKUP(C8,'Casing Dims'!A1:F42,2,FALSE)
