    Sql 2000

    Is it possible to store a pdf file in a sequal table.

    Yes. You can use the Image data type, which will store the data as a BLOB.

    I have read that it is more efficient to store a path in the database and keep the file external to the database. However, I haven't had occasion to compare for myself.

    It is probably more efficient in general (especially for engines like Access/Jet) but there are a host of security issues that can be easily resolved by storing the file directly in SQL Server. From my experience, this is relatively easy to design, develop, and maintain. Those benefits seem to outweigh the small performance gain of using the file system instead of the database.
