    import speadsheet wizard (Access 2003)

I am trying to import excel data into access using the wizard. I get an error message that reads:

    Method 'Columns' of 'IImexGrid' failed.
This is a new one for me. Does anybody know what it means and how to fix it? The import finishes successfully, but the message keeps coming up.

    Thanks,

    itconc

Re: import speadsheet wizard (Access 2003)

There has been quite a lot of chat about this in other web forums but sometimes this is caused by several things

    1) Have the column headers got field names that Access can handle. In some legacy downloads in the for of csv horrible little char characters get fed in a firld padders (char(4) and char(10) were my nemesis

    2) Similarly are you sure that all the columns that appear to have no data in them actually don't have data in them again similar hidden LF characters

    3) Do you have date/time fields in the excel spreadsheet, Access wizard sometimes picks these up as text and bulks at it.

    4) Do you have date/time fields in the access table you are importing to that allow nulls...SQL Enterprise Manager hates that and maybe access does to

    5) Have you got columns in your excel spreasheet with data but no heading

Try these and get back to us if you have problems

Thanks for your reply. We have done the import with the same excel data format numerous times without any problem. Your item 1 could be the case since the data is imported into excel also.
Item 2 I handle by defining a range and importing it.
Item 3 and 4 - we have not date time fields
Item 5 - We do not have in this case. However, I have seen that before and access simply gives it a fieldx name.
    Thanks again,

Hi thanks for getting back to us.

As there has never been a real answer to this on the other web forums could you get back yo us and tell us how you solved it.

    1) Try manually re-typing the field names to make sure or do a =Len(A1) to see if there is a variance in field length <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>
