    Stop Error - ntdll.dll (Xp Home )

A friend experienced a thunder storm last night - not sure if it is related but now when she starts her DELL , she gets the following message

    STOP: C0000221 Unknown Hard Error
    systemRootSystem32ntdll.dll

And the computer totally freezes at that point. The system is a 1 year old DELL that was functioning just fine.

I thought about going to the Recovery Console and copying the ntdll.dll from the disk to the system but the Recovery Console does not work. When I press R - nothing happens. When I press ENTER, nothing happens. When I press F3, nothing happens.

Can I try to reinstall Windows XP over itself?

    trebor,
With the Dell you CAN try the recovery CD that Dell supplies, as long as they gave your friend one when they bought it. <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>

Re: Stop Error - ntdll.dll (Xp Home )

    Hi Viking,

I am now at the point where I believe I will have to reinstall Windows. However it is not giving me the option to do a REPAIR installation which means I will lose all data, etc. So I thought I would pull the hard drive and put it in a different system as a slave and then backup the personal files. But now I find that the hard drive is a "serial ata" hard drive. I have no other systems that will allow me to connect a "serial ata" hard drive. Is there any way to backup my friend's personal files under these circumstances?

If you want to go that route, there should be Serial ATA to IDE adapters that will allow using ATA drives. Most computer shops should either have them or be able to get them for you.
