    axis labels (2003)

I am wondering if it is possible to only list every 5th label on an axis. There is a lot of info on my chart, so when I add labels it gets very busy.

    thanks

This can be quite a job but I have attached a worksheet for you to look at:

As you will see from the attachnment I have created a data table in yellow and a label table in green, the left hand column in pink is a series of letters. The equations in the label data will come apparent when you click on them

    1) First create a chart for B1:H24. as you normally would
2)This will create a chart for all 6 series.... we want to get rid of the last three
    3) Select the Label 1 right hand mouse click and set the properties to No Marker, No line In data labels click value
    4) Repeat this for the other 2 label series.

Slightly cumbersome but now has labels every other 5 points on the chart.

Jerry has shown how to label every 5th data point. If you want to label every 5th category on the x-axis (as the subject of your post suggests), it's simply a property of the axis:
    - Double click the x-axis, or single-click it and select Format | Selected Axis...
    - Activate the Scale tab.
    - Change the value in the box labeled "Number of categories between tick-mark labels" to 5.
    - You can also set the number of categories between tick marks if you like.
    - Click OK.
    See screenshot.
