    Words from the gods

The list of words below are words that we frequently use today whose origins or associations can be traced back to the Roman/Greek gods or things that relate to these legendary characters. Can you identify the words and which god they are derived from.

    1. Phobia - from Phobos, an attendant of the god Mars.
    3. Muse - one of 9 goddesses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne.
    8. Narcissistic - Narkissos , son of a river god, I think.

    Interesting Rory. I went for <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">Pallor-Child of Mars (War)</span hide> Thinking of change of skin colour when scared.... <img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17>I prefer yours though

    Re: Words from the gods

    Very well done Rory,

If you are sure of your answer in No.1 then I accept that as a correct answer. I had <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">Panic - derived from PAN, the greek god of terror!</span hide>
No 3 and 8 are spot on. <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold"> Muse, derived from 9 greek gods of art and sciences, and Narcissistic derived from a youth who fell in love with his own refection and rejected by the gods... </span hide>

    No. 5 is also correct... <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">Bacchanal - derived from Bacchus, the Roman god of wine!</span hide>

    Re: Words from the gods

    Bandido...hi.
Some of your answers look correct, but I can only confirm once I bring the answers into work tomorrow. (Forgot them at home!!)
BTW: I am actually after the word derived from the god. To name the Greek/Roman god is just the bonus. You are approching the puzzle from the wrong angle although on visual account some of the gods you name seem correct!!
    Cheers
    Regards,
    Rudi

    Hi Rudi,

Thanks for that. I'll work on it.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
You are approaching the puzzle from the wrong angle......
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    Nothing new there, then. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Re: Words from the gods

I had to laugh yesterday when I typed this phrase:
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
You are approaching the puzzle from the wrong angle......
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

It originally appeared on screen as: You are approaching the puzzle from the wrong angel!!! Quite appropriate with a post about the gods and all!!!

Anyways, here is a reply to some posted answers!!

Questions 1, 3, 5 and 8 are answered correcly! The rest are still outstanding!

The answers you provided for 2, 4 and 6 are incorrect Rob....Sorry!
    Regards,
    Rudi

    Re: Words from the gods

No 2 is Perfectly Spot On!! Well done!
<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">Protean, derived from the greek sea god who could change shape at will!!</span hide>

Your No 6 does not match my answer! TIP: The word you seek is derived from <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">the god of retribution!</span hide>

    Rudi

    Aah! In that case, you must mean - <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">Nemesis</span hide>.
