Trouble adding a reference (Access 2000)

I have a DB that has already been developed to a large extent (ie: I cannot start from scratch!). I now would like to add the Microsoft DAO Object Library. Each time I try, I get an error message "Can't perform the requested operation".

The funny thing is that if I create a new DB, I have no problem in adding in the Microsoft DAO Object Library reference. I can also open someone else's DB that requires this object library. However, with my DB I check the box but it does not allow me to add the object library.

It could be that I am prevented from adding this reference because of the permissions set up on my DB, but I don't know how to fix it. I have full admin rights to every aspect of the DB. Also, the DB is split, with the tables being on the network and the front-end sitting on my local drive. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Any and all ideas are very welcome.

    Thanks!

    1) Which references are checked at the moment?
    2) What happens if you try to set an arbitrary other reference? Does that fail too?

    Hans,

    1) Visual Basic for Applications, Microsoft Access 9.0 Object Library, OLE Automation and Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.1 Library
    2) Any reference I choose fails, it doesn't matter which one.

    Try the following:
    - Create a blank new database.
    - Import all database objects from the problem database into the new one.
    - See if you can add a reference to the DAO library.
    - If it works, you'll still have to set the startup options the way they are in the original database.

    Success!

I wonder, was the original DB corrupted somehow? Was it an Access quirk?

    Thanks for your help, Hans.

I'd guess that the original database was slightly corrupt, but of course I cannot be sure about that without having seen it.

Anyhow, importing all database objects into a new database often helps to get rid of problems, so it's worth a try. Glad it worked for you.
