Access 254 Character limit (2002 sp3)

I am working with Access and and OBDC link. One of the fields that I am importing occassionally contains more that 254 characters. Because of the limitation, data is lost. I realized this when I gave certain criteria and the results were incorrect. Is there a workaround for this or any way to remove the 254 character limitation?

Hi There

Are you importing into a prebuilt table in the database?

If so could you make this field memo?

Open the table in Design view.
Move the cursor to the filed that requires changing.
From the drop down box select Memo.
Save the table.

When you import a table from an external source, one of the steps in the Import Wizard asks whether you want to import into a new table or into an existing table. Take the result of an import to a new table, delete all records, then change the data type of the problem field from Text to Memo, and save the design. Then import to this table. If all goes well, you'll get more than 254 characters in the Memo field. If not, it may be a limitation of the ODBC driver you're using.

Hans thank you. I tried it but it's still not capturing everything. The ODBC is capturing the information from a forms database. I'm wondering if it is something that needs to be changed in that database. ODBCad32.exe is what we are using. Is it old?

ODBCad32.exe is just the general data source administration application, it is not an ODBC driver. Start it and locate your ODBC data source. Which driver does it use?

I don't have any experience with that, perhaps someone else can help.

Thanks so much for your help. I don't know what I would do without Woody's Portal!!!! You've helped me in the past and it is truly appreciated.

Thanks for responding. Yes I am and I tried the memo. I'm contacting the source to see if there is a workaround on his end.

Thanks again.....
