Most Common Font List (2003 SP1)

Office programs generally put the most recently used fonts at the top of the list.

Is there a way to control this "most recently used list" so that it always has the (small set of) fonts I use at the top, and so that those are locked?

I really hope that someone will have a suggestion (I would like to know the solution too!), but somehow I doubt it is possible.

Since this is of interest to a power user as well - indicating that it is a tougher problem to solve - I have a couple of suggestions for workarounds.

    1) Would it be possible to write a script that - if the most recently used fonts disapper - quickly opens up, writes some text to re-establish those favorite fonts at the top of the list, and closes again?
    2) Can Windows be set up in a way to have "first class" and "second class" fonts. I've got hundreds in the second category, and I'm really close to just deleting them all for reinstallation as needed.

I'm not optimistic - the list of most recently used fonts is not exposed in the VB object model of the Office applications.

I'm not sure which applications are of the most interest to you, but one could create a toolbar with a drop-down or individual buttons for the "top 7" (or so) fonts as an alternative to using the long list. The action taken by the buttons would vary depending on the application, unless there was a way to have the button select the font in the built-in drop-down, triggering its normal behavior. (I wonder if that's possible? Without SendKeys, I mean...)

You could try WordToys . It has a "favorite fonts" feature,
which is also included in the free personal edition.

Damn. I downloaded that about 2 months ago, and haven't gotten around to evaluating it.

I just installed it, and yes, it does seem to have precisely the feature that I want.'

Now I just have to figure out what kind of baggage comes with it.

I've used WordToys on my office PC for several months. It takes some effort getting used to its features, but it hasn't created any problems. I haven't installed it on my home PC because my wife can only deal with incremental changes.

That is why you need to get her, her OWN computer, so she can have the settings and addins that she wnats.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Yah, I agree, except she paid for half of the "family" PC. I must, therefore, keep settings "sensible."
