    Indexing of data (2000 sp3)

    All,
I have a simple mileage tracking spreadsheet that I am using. I would like to add an automatic indexing in column A for each row to ensure the sorting always works the way I will be sorting.

Index Date Odometer Gal $ Per gal Cost Trip Mileage
    3 23-Aug-2005 210,357 25.131 $2.589 $65.06 328.0 13.1

I would like the field to auto-increment when a new line is inserted in @ row 2. Assumptions are the Header row is row 1.

I did a search of the excel forum, however I did not see what I was looking for.

    Thanks,
    Brad

Why not use the Odometer column as index?

Guess that I could. I did not think of the data in that light.

    Thanks,
