    'Live' data (2003 allSPs)

am trying to help a local Community Transport group keep track of
where their passengers get on/off the bus.
What I have in mind is a lap top in the bus connected to a GPS so that
when the driver clicks on a passengers name, the database will extract
the current GPS position and store it in a table which really only
needs Passenger name, date and time and GPS co-ordinate.
Is it possible to link Access to NMEA data from a GPS. My first
concern is the log file for the GPS is "live" ie constantly being
updated so I am not sure how you would get in.
    Any assistance much appreciated

I think it should be possible to do what you describe. I presume the GPS unit would probably attach via an RS232 Serial port - that seems to be the most common approach for the units I know about. One possibility would be to write a VB routine to replace the GPS app that creates the log file and roll your own so you always have the last NMEA sentence sitting in a buffer. Another would be to use VBA to capture the data and actually stuff it into an Access table, though that seems less desirable. I agree that trying to open the log file from Access and get the current position info would be messy at best.
