multi tasked if statement (excel 00)

    IF(IF(f24=f23,IF(D24=d23,"Hold ("&F24&")","Increase("&F24&")","Start("&F24&")"),C 24=C23,"","(C24)")

is a messy If statement that obiviouly doesnt work. I basically want it to chang what a cell says if any conditions are met.

    the statement checks the following,
If whats in cell 23 is = to cell 24 then this will be written,
Hold F24 if d24=d23, else Increase F24 if d24 is not equal to d23.
but if F24 has a different value then print Start ("F24"). Then a seperate statement looks to see if whats in column c changes then print ("C24")
hope fully this makes sense, I will make an example to make it clearer.
    Thanks

Do you mean the literal text

    Start ("F24")

or do you want to replace F24 by the value of this cell? And should the quotes be included or not?

Please try to explain slowly and clearly what you want.

Re: multi tasked if statement (excel 00)

    ok,
the words Hold, Start, and Increase I mean literal,

    so.
    If whats in F23=F24
this will be written if the value in D24=D23
    Hold (F24)
but if the F23=F24 and the value in D24 is different this will be written Instead,
    Increase (F24)

IF the value in F23 is not = to F24 the
    Start (F24)
    is written

now, to add to it if the value in cell c24 is different then whats in c23 write c24 beside the previous statement
    Increase (F24) (C24)
this is what will be written is the value in C24 is different,
but if the value in C24=c23 then
there is nothing written beside Increase (F24)

You still don't say explicitly whether you want the text F24 or the value of F24.
    Assuming the former:
    =IF(F24=F23,IF(D24=D23,"Hold","Increase"),"Start") &" (F24)"&IF(C24=C23,""," (C24)")
    Assuming the latter:
    =IF(F24=F23,IF(D24=D23,"Hold","Increase"),"Start") &" ("&F24&")"&IF(C24=C23,""," ("&C24&")")
