Bookmark brackets need to be black (2003/SP1)

Upon upgrading to Word 2000 to 2003 my bookmark brackets that used to appear black are now gray. Gray brackets surrounding a shaded field are almost completely invisible, and this confuses my tech writers. "Using Word 2003" (by Camarda) says that they appear either gray or black (the brackets, that is, not my tech writers!) depending on the computer and video card used, but I was hoping someone could provide a solution via code.

You can only show/hide them (in the View tab of Tools | Options...), you can't change their appearance, except perhaps by choosing a black & white color scheme in Windows.

I took a quick look at the (otherwise useful) tips, but I don't see anything that seriously addresses George's problem (I don't consider making the text of all bookmarks bold a realistic solution, since it would affect thw way the document is printed too.)

Thanks for trying, guys. I especially appreciate the link to the WordTips website that I wasn't aware of. Microsoft must have changed from black to gray bookmark brackets to make it interfere less with regular black text. They didn't consider the confusion they would cause by blending into standard shaded fields.

AFAIK, the colouring of these brackets hasn't changed. I use Word 2000, and they're grey (though darker than the field shading). I'm pretty sure it was the same in Word 97 also. Maybe you can change your monitor setting to show a greater differentaition between the various shades of grey?

    Cheers
