How about Select All?

I know this has been raised in the past, and at my last recollection, it was an issue when Claude was especially busy with other details about the lounge. So seeing that some changes were made recently and, seeing that ...AFAIK... it seems to be a little quieter, could I re-raise the need for a "Select All" button on the Watched Threads pane. Please accept that I am negligent to the fact that I do not know how much effort (or ease) it takes to program the web page, so accept my request with an attiturde of friendly sympathy! If it cannot be done, just say so and I will back down just as quickly.

This request comes on the back of an ever increasing list and a mildly irritating need to keep tab and spacebarring to keep the list managable! I remember a request for a Delete All button, but after thinking about it more, it could be useful to have a SELECT ALL button. Then you can de-activate the checkboxes that you want to preserve before hitting the Delete Selected button!

What say the developers about this request. Could it be seen to if it is easy enough. Is it in the development pipeline, or is it an impossible request currently???

TIA
Regards,
Rudi

To be honest, Rudi, I don't understand how you could be "watching" so many threads that you needed that functionality. At some point a thread loses its currency and should probably just be dropped from the list anyhow. If you're looking for a one-time cleanup tool, may I suggest that the painful experience of doing it the hard way might keep you out of that fix in the future?

Re: How about Select All?

Hi Charlotte...long time no speak!

I have my profile set up that it adds the posts that I interact on into the watched threads. This list grows very long and when I click on the View All link it opens a page that list quite some length. I was told in the past that I need to manually check the boxes and then click Delete Selected to get rid of them. I unfortunately dont do this often and the list gets so long that it takes some effort to delete manually.
I wouldn't be so hassled if I knew the list automatically truncated after a certain length, but I presume this is not the case, so I thought of suggesting a Check All button in that pane, just like the ones in the Post Box window.

Please know that I'm not making an issue of it. I just wanna know if its an option and if it is...it would be great to have it there to quickly clean up the list that automatically generates in the Watched Threads pane!
Tx
Regards,
Rudi

Re: How about Select All?

Perhaps you should turn off 'Do you want to add all posts you make to your Watched Threads list?', and add threads to the Watched Threads list manually and sparingly.
The option to add them automatically might be useful for someone who posts only occasionally, but for Loungers who contribute regularly, such as you, it's too much.

Re: How about Select All?

I suspect in the general scheme of things, it may be a bit too much to justify a software change, particularly as you're probably the only one with the problem

Do you need to have every thread you feature in automatically added to your watched list? As you want to Select All then De-select Some it sounds like you are having more threads added to the list than you want in the first place! Why don't you add them to your list as you interact with the thread?

Re: How about Select All?

As I mentioned...I will not fuss with it. Its only a suggestion. And I will do precisely that Hans. Tx

PS: What do you do, based on the amount of posts you deal with on a daily basis??? Do you have the feature off and only add the occational one, or do you dutifully clean the list??

Yes...that was Hans's suggestion. And I have bowed to his word! Strange that this action never really occured to me as it was active ever since i've been a member!! [weird]

Thx for the advice!!

Re: How about Select All?

I don't use the Watched Threads feature at all.

I add threads I want to reply to, but don't have time for, to the Reminders list. This list never gets very long - threads will be removed automatically when I post a reply, and if I decide that I'm not going to reply after all, I remove the thread manually.

Re: How about Select All?

I have in my Control Panel 23 forums that I read on a daily basis. I too have all threads in which I comment added to my watched threads list. Yes, I do clean out the older entries in the list but I don't do it often because the time I asked the question, similar to what you're asking, I believe it was Claude who replied that each entry in the list "only" consumes a few bytes of server space, so it's not a concern to The Lounge. You see, I was asking from a more global standpoint about server capacity, rather than my own list. Meanwhile in answer to Leif, Hans and others who don't use Watched Threads: the only reason I do so is to know where to "look first" when I pop in to The Lounge each time I do. I'm in-and-out MANY times in a day and it's nice to know where the threads are that I'm involved in, that have new posts. In truth, I too could stop using the list without inconvenience to me, for I check every forum in my Control Panel, every time I'm in The Lounge.

Re: How about Select All?

Hans, I've never noticed that. Are you saying that when you reply to a thread in the reminders list it removes it automatically???
That is great...then I will do the same!
If this is the case...tx for that tip!!

Rudi

Re: How about Select All?

Yeah...that is the basis of this thread. However...I'll leave it at that as I have got more clarity as to how to change/manage that list now!
Thx for the support!
Cheers

Re: How about Select All?

The following text is displayed when you add a post to the reminders list:

The selected post/thread has been added to your list. You will see this entry in the 'Control Panel' until you remove it if you added it as a Favorite. If you added it as a Reminder it will go away once you make a reply to the post. In a moment you will be automatically returned to the forum.

It only works if you reply to the specific post you added, not if you reply to another post in the same thread.

Tx...
Its so rare that I add a post to the Reminders List. I'm sure I'll see it now that I will use it a little more!

Just make sure you add this thread to your list, then we won't have to go through all this again
