Re: activesync: synchronization upgrade to build #9587

What a guy! I tried the updates Active Sync and it appears to work. Now for the real test. I have swapable drives and have my 125 connect to each. I'm set up with one drive with business apps only that I insert on weekdays, the other drive has everything play and goes in evenings and weekends. Both try and talk to the 125. I'll let everyone know if the new software makes each drive behave politely with my Pocket PC.

Quick update. Switched to my work drive and the problem has gone from bad to worse. Not only can I NOT connect to my 125 with the update, now my USB mouse will not work either. Any suggestions?

I already tried the removing and reinstalling (why does it always select the existing installed driver) and swapping the mouse and cradle. Should I remove and reinstall Active Sync? I doubt it's the USB card as everything's fine with the play drive in.

    Hi, Flatspin:

Sorry you weren't able to solve your problem.

I don't have any other suggestions. Sometimes uninstalling a program does not uninstall all of it, particularly Registry entries, and it's occasionally useful to manually remove these entries from the Registry before re-installing. But as I'm sure you well know, editing the Registry is like brain surgery: Touch the brain, never the same.

The only thing I can suggest is trying technical support from HP or Microsoft. Frankly, I haven't had much luck with either. ActiveSync is a Microsoft problem however.

I'm sure you will eventually solve this, so please get back to the forum with your solution when you do.

    Good luck,
    Ivan

activesync: synchronization upgrade to build #9587

<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1>Edited by mwolfman on 01/01/17 19:40.</FONT></P>Perhaps this will be useful if you are having difficulty connecting a WindowsCE device (e.g., PocketPC) on a USB port; especially if you upgrade to Office 2000 SR-2.

Woody's Office Watch #5.51 (Office 2000 Service Pack 2) specifically states:

"If you have a Windows CE or Pocket PC device you'll want to download and install the latest version of ActiveSync from http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/d.../activesync.asp

I initially ignored this because version 3.1 is delivered with the Jornada PocketPC. BUT, it's version 3.1.9386, and Microsoft states (at the above website):

"If you have ActiveSync 3.1 build #9386 or build #9439 and you are unable to connect your Windows Powered Device to your desktop PC or laptop via a USB connection, you may need to download the latest version of ActiveSync 3.1 (build #9587). In addition, if you have installed the Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 Security Update you may also need to download ActiveSync build #9587. For more information on the above issues, please see the following KB article. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar...s/Q272/2/63.asp ).

The support article (Changes in Microsoft ActiveSync Version 3.1 Build 9587) at the above URL, includes a reference to Q259968 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar...s/Q259/9/68.ASP) USB Connection Not Detected by ActiveSync.
So: I am happily downloading the latest version of ActiveSync, and passing this on. I'll be curious if it really helps -- and THANK YOU WOODY!

    Regards,
    Ivan
