Windows undo?

Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but its been buggin me

at work i have my icons set up in sections on my desktop for easier viewing & organization. occasionally out of old habit, when i add a new icon, instead choosing "line up icons", i hit the arrange icons by > name, or type, or whatever. then my icons go into the window's icon order at the left side of my window. my first reaction is to jam on CTRL+Z out of desperation. then after that doesn't work, i sit there and re-organize my icons... for about 10 minutes. is there any prevention to this?? or should i just avoid being stupid?

Have a look at Desktop Restore.

That sounds like a great plan .

Seriously, on my desktop, I have my icons set up to "Align to Grid". That way, whenever a new icon is added, I don't have to pick any of the "Arrange Icons by.." options. If I don't like the particular arrangement, I simply drag them around until I'm satisfied. They will all align to the grid.

Don't know about Win2k, but in XP, right click on the desktop and it's included in the "Arrange Icons by" options.

If no luck, have a look at the similar ware program Icon Restore.

    Re: Windows undo?

I'd forgotten Icoinoid could do that. It's probably a better solution, since it has other functions too, and is a smaller proggie from memory.

    Re: Windows undo?

I installed Iconoid today @ work and i freaked out after about 10 seconds of using it - because all but my background image disappeared! i found out shortly after that that theres a setting that controls that. gave me a good bit of a but all is well and the program has some nice options - like getting rid of the background color of the icon text. Thanks Ken!

We conducted a private poll here, and the vote was overwhelmingly in favour of not forewarning you about that particular "feature".
