    Kerio Personal Firewall - R.I.P

Another one bites the dust. See this forum thread Kerio: Kerio Personal Firewall 4 => KPF: End of Life December 31st 2005.

Re: Kerio Personal Firewall - R.I.P

I used to recommend to friends as good free firewalls a choice of Zone Alarm, Kerio or Sygate. Kerio is going, Sygate is taken over by Symantec. Does that just leave ZA, or are there other recommendable free products?

There are others. Check out NONAGS Security Tools - Freeware, LeakTest -- Personal Firewall Scoreboard, Freeware Home - System Utilities > Security > Firewalls, & Freeware Personal Firewalls - SnapFiles, we download it before you do!. I can't vouch for how well any work as I just reverted to ZA when I saw the Sygate announcement.

I wish I could believe that the whole of Steve Gibson's page on Leaktest was thoroughly revised in Feb 2005 (as at the bottom of the page)-- but when was version 2.55 of Symantec/Norton Internet Firewall available?? 2000, maybe? Earlier?

    John,

Yeah, I don't often look at anything with his site anymore.

If you want to run some leak tests on a computer that doesn't contain any really sensitive information (!!), see this page at PC Flank: Personal Firewalls vs. Leak Tests: Part II: "Leak Tests Win Again!", August 7, 2003, Leak tests descriptions. The folks at this site love Outpost Firewall Pro, but they also "sell" it (more accurately, earn affiliate credit for sales through their site). Unfortunately, it's always difficult to tell which came first, the love or the money... <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Interesting. Discussion on the above forum revolves around whether Kerio should be sold off/given away. Sometime ago the AVG website started promoting a AVG/Kerio bundle. They are now also sell "AVG Plus Firewall". Perhaps this is where Kerio Firewall has ended up?
