Word 97 file naming problem (Word 97 SR-2)

I have a template named "dream master.dot". Currently this has: " Dream 3rd September 2005" as the top line. When I create a new document using the template and then try saving the document word offers me the following file name: "Dream 3rd September 2001" It changes the year. Surely this is wrong? How can I get word to automatically offer me what I type for the title of the page as the file name to be saved. I'm not using any fields - just regular text.

    Thanks,

    Chris (Hunt)

is the date hard coded, or is it actually a field?

Check the Properties for the template & see if Title has 2001 in it. If so, delete the Title (you will find it under File/Properties/Summary tab or right click the template Explorer & choose Properties). If that isn't the problemm, see <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>. And if that doesn't work, see if you can zip & attach the template.
    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the replies and my apologies for being so slow to write back. I tried remaking the template but it still has problems. I tried to attach it but got an error message. I don't think DOT files are allowed. The template is really nothing in itself, I'm concerned about why Word isn't generating a suggestion of the title from the contents of the document. But other templates seem to be OK. Wonder if it is something to do with the style?

    Stumped,

    Chris

You cannot attach .dot files directly. Create a .zip file containing the templatew and attach that.

Thanks Hans, I didn't read the small print carefully enough! Here is the file zipped.

When I create a new document from the template and select File | Save As..., the proposed name is "Dream 3rd September 2005.doc" (see screenshot)
    I'm using Word 2002 SP-3.

    Thanks Hans,

I have Word 97 and I get "Dream 3rd September 2001.doc". It is changing the year on me. This is the problem I would like to solve.

    Hi Chris:
I get the same thing as Hans, but I also have Word 2003. What happens if you start Word from the command line (Start/Run) & type

    winword.exe /a
& press <enter>. If you then try to create a new document from your template, do you still get the 2001 year?

Wow, I'm at a loss. I can't figure out what would cause this. I suppose you could check your regional settings, but that really shouldn't affect this. The other thing I would try is to go to File/Properties & put the title with the correct year in the template. If that doesn't work (as a workaround), then post back & we can try something else.

Re: Word 97 file naming problem (Word 97 SR-2)

    Thanks Phil,

I put the title in with the year and that did work. Other templates I have made seem to behave correctly. But not this one. I've tried remaking testing it step by step - it seems to go wrong after I apply the heading. Other templates are not using the heading but I can't see why this would be causing a problem.
