    Re: satellite Imagery

    John,
I found a couple of sites from Katrina. One from NOAA and the other a private site. I don't know if this will help but it's a start.

    satellite Imagery

I am looking for current satellite images of New Orleans, Louisiana area via satellite. On behalf of family members who have been displaced I am trying to find out the status of their homes. They are one of the lucky ones who left before the hurricane hit. I have found sites that have outdated images.

    Any recommendations would be appreciated,
    John

    John,

Just curious as to the status of your search.
Did any of the links provide you with a decent look around the area? <img src=/S/question.gif border=0 alt=question width=15 height=15>

    Re: satellite Imagery

    Bob,

Thanks for the links. NOAA seemed to be the best place to look for flood conditions. One of my main concerns was to find up-to-date satellite images three to four days after the hurricane. I realize it does take time to update the sites but most images are well over a year old. There were many conflicting stories regarding my relatives homes; under water or just wind damage. My relatives were on of the few lucky ones whose house only had minor wind damage. They were able to move back into their house this past Saturday along with two other neighborhood familes. It is kind of tight - three families in one house . The electricity is on and that is about it. No other services available; water, telephone, cellular, police, medical and etc.. It is times like these that everyone pulls together and counts their blessings. But it is sad to see and hear about those less fortunate.

    Regards,
    John

    John,
I'm glad to hear SOME good news out that area for once.
Your relatives were indeed fortunate with their housing. You can do without some of the modern niceties for a while but you always have to have a home to come back to.
    Send our best regards to all of them, from all at the Lounge. <img src=/S/clapping.gif border=0 alt=clapping width=19 height=23> <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>
