Website view in other browers (Frontpage for XP)

I've just been told that there is a problem with my website - can anyone help me? I produced it in Frontpage and now it seems that it's not displaying properly in other browsers. Wish I could show you but this forum doesn't allow me attach pictures.

I've been told that more people will start to move to Firefox and Opera because of the security issues surrounding Internet Explorer. Therefore I need to fix it - can anyone help me?

Can you post the URL to your website? - then we can see what problems there may be!

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by jscher2000 on 05-Sep-05 14:04. )</P>This is very complicated HTML, full of unfamiliar tags (e.g., <v:...>) that I suspect are optional and could be made more cross-browser. Of course, the Windows Media Player might not play in browsers not based on IE.

I don't have FP on this computer, so I don't remember where you set the "browser compatibility options." Experiment with those and see if you can get a page that is a better compromise between IE and FF. Or... give up for now. Most users still use IE and you can return to this issue on your next major re-design (hopefully with less distracting text sliding around).

Added: Don't bother with the Netscape 4.x option, since Firefox is much more like IE 5 than it is like NS 4. But see if you can turn off VML.

Hi, thanks for your help, but where do I find how to turn off VML? I've looked in frontpage but can't find it anywhere. Thanks

Don't worry. I found it. I also clicked on compatibility and changed browsers from Internet Explorer only to something else but it doesn't give me the choice of netscape, firefox or opera so couldn't do much there! As I don't have these browsers, would you mind checking the site for me? Thanks very much and for your help.

I think you would be a lot better off downloading them for yourself so that you can quickly check for compatability on the fly:
Netscape, Firefox and Opera are all readily available, and at zero cost.

It's way, way better in Firefox. However, the mid-section still is far to the right. See the attached print-to-PDF from Firefox 1.0.6.

Hi, that does look awful doesn't it! Don't know what to do, also my media player isn't showing on the page! I just hope more people are using Internet Explorer. The site's been up for almost 2 years and this is the first and only person to question it in other browsers!
I did post another question on the lounge but no replies. Does anyone know how to put in a choice of videos to play on embedded media players. The only one mine will play is the one linked to the player. Do I have to have an individual player for each video?

I don't understand how embedded video players work. However, you could put your video player into a separate page (separate pages for each video) and load it as an IFRAME into your main page, shuffling the different pages in and out of the IFRAME using a list control and some JavaScript. Of course, it sounds reasonable, but I've never done anything like that. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
