Re: Upgrading Microsoft Works 7.0 to Office 2000 Pro

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Do you have a particular reason for wanting to keep Word 2002? Since Word is part of the Office suite, you run the risk that Word 2002 won't work properly any more after installing Office 2000 Pro, so I'd recommend uninstalling Word 2002 anyway before installing Office 2000 Pro. If you really want to, you can then reinstall Word 2002.

Is this the case even if I don't install Word 2000 from my Office CD. I have no reason for wanting to keep Word 2002 other than the fact that it's the newer version & possibly better?

Upgrading Microsoft Works 7.0 to Office 2000 Pro

My computer (running XP) came with Microsoft Works Suite 2003 which includes Word 2002. Word 2002 is installed to C:/Program FIles/Microsoft Office. I just purchased Microsoft Office 2000 Professional because have a need for Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook & Access. Can I just custom install the 4 other Office 2000 programs without Word 2000 (Since I have the newer version) into a non default folder ie. C:/Program Files/Office 2000 and all will be well? I know Microsoft recommends installing multiple Office programs in order of release. Does this apply to me if I only have Word and not a suite? Hopefully I can just install the new Office programs without removing Word 2002 or Works first. Anybody know if I will run into problems installing they way I suggested? Thanks.

Re: Upgrading Microsoft Works 7.0 to Office 2000 P

Office programs use some shared DLLs, so even if you don't install Word 2000, installation of the shared Office 2000 DLLs may have a negative effect on Word 2002.

Word 2002 has some new features, but they're not important enough to insist on keeping it, in my opinion.

Re: Upgrading Microsoft Works 7.0 to Office 2000 P

So in your opinion, I should just dump Word 2002 and install everything from Office 2000 including Word 2000. Are there any major differences between Word 2000 &
Word 2002. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I have been looking for the answer to this problem for some time.

Yes, in your situation I would dump Word 2002, and use the whole of Office 2000.

Microsoft's summary of the new features in Word 2002: Description of new features in Word 2002
