Protected forms how do I obtain a Copy?

The users have protected forms with data in the forms. When we do a Save As on the form - all the date is cleared. Is this the correct behaviour?
Is there a way I can obtain a copy of the form with data included?

    many thanks

What do you mean by "When we do a Save As on the form"? If you save a document protected for forms under another name, there is no reason why data should be lost.

As Hans says, there is no inherent reason why Word would lose the forms data by saving the document. Perhaps there is a macro running which plays a role here - do you have a macro named FileSaveAs?

If you used Windows Explorer to duplicate the file then you would have an exact replica which included whatever data was already in there.

One way to clear a form is to unprotect and reprotect it, without using the feature to preserve data when you reprotect it.... Possibly a macro supplied with a document management system is doing this as part of its regular routine of updating certain properties or fields or text in the document when you choose Save As?

    thanks.

Yes on a protected form when the users do a Save As to create another copy of the document the result is all the form fields data gets cleared.

jefferson yes we have a document management system. It occurs on the Save As. Yes all the data is lost and the form is unprotected.
I'll have to dig around to see what I can find. I just wanted to confirm if this was Words normal behaviour on a protected form clear all the data

I'll let you know what I find

    Hi Diana,

A simple workaround would be to use Windows explorer to make a copy of the file, thus avoiding 'Save As' issues.

    Cheers

To temporarily bypass the DMS integration and see what happens, if all else fails you can do this:

    1. Enter form data.
    2. Open VBE Immediate window.
    3. Enter Activedocument.saveas "c:test.doc"
