Sharing violation during save (Excel 2002)

Subject edited by HansV to aid in future searches. "Excel" wasn't very descriptive.

A user in our office has just had the following error message

"our changes could not be saved to filename.xls because of a sharing violation. Excel has created a temporary file with your chages preserved"

This is unusual for two reasons:
    1. He had just created the file a few minutes earlier and had not closed it, so if anyone else had opened the file, they would have got the read only message
    2. There is a spelling error in the error message, the error message says chages instead of changes - would Microsoft make a typo?

If any one has seen this before, or has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Amanda

Possible causes of this problem are an overactive anti-virus program, and insufficient permissions on the folder where the workbook is to be saved. See You may receive a "Your changes could not be saved" error message when you try to save a file to a network drive in Excel and How to troubleshoot errors when you save Excel files.

Many thanks for your suggestions Hans.

I am keeping an eye on the virus software, should this happen again.
