Last Save Date

Is there a way to insert a "Last Save Date" in a document?

Insert-Field, choose Date and time on the left, and Save date on the right.

You may also want to ensure that this gets updated "automatically" (so to speak). You can do this with a quick macro, or what I find helpful is to turn on the "Update Fields" box under Tools|Options|Print. The "Update fields" box should be the second one down on the left side of this panel. This way, each new printed copy will have the latest "last saved" date on it. Alternatively, you can highlight the field and press <F9> to update it manually. HTH

    Ron,

A caveat on using the "update fields" option set on the print tab

IF you have a document with form fields, AND the document is unprotected, the form fields are emptied if the document is printed when the "update fields" option is set.

It probably does not apply- just a warning though in case anyone gets bitten the way we did!

Thanks Geoff. An interesting outcome, probably one of those "undocumented features" in Word. I do little, if any, work with forms, most of my work is with technical and training types of documentation so I have not had the happy occasion to run into this. Is this behaviour prevalent in all versions of Word, or at least 97 and 2000?

For more on the different date fields and formats, see (addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm) (once the site is back up). An earlier version is on my old web host.
