rapid Terragen update to v0.9.43

It seems last week's release of Terragen 0.9.41 introduced some bugs so it has been pulled and replaced with v0.9.43

Extra detail, from the author Matt Fairclough on the official Terragen group at Yahoo:
>Important! If you have used v0.9.41, you will need to ensure that your
>preferences weren't saved with bad values. To fix this, the first time you
>run v0.9.43 you should open the Preferences for the 3D Preview (menu:
>Terragen -> Preferences -> 3D Preview), select the Medium preset and then
>click OK to correct the existing prefs file.

Will do. It's also mentioned on the What's new page on the Terragen website.

In the Pix Place forum starting with <post:=579,095>post 579,095</post:> there are several lovely pictures created by Terragen! I wanted to point out that there is now an application available for the MAC located here! I've installed mine on MAC OS X - V10.4.6 and it looks like it will work just fine. Now to figure it out!

It has probably been nearly 3 years since I tried playing with Terragen and succeeded in creating nothing more than utter frustration. Hans' images are astounding and still wonder how anyone can do things like that.

The pictures I made are fairly straightforward. If you want to see some really amazing ones, take a look at (for example) Luc Bianco's gallery.

I understand you. It was 4 years ago when I first (and last) gave TerraGen a try. The learning process would take way much more time than I can devote.

That doesn't mean I can't appreciate other people's work!

Thanks for the links Ken! I have begun playing with the program but I see there will be lots of work to learn this before I come close to making something decent to post! It is a fascinating piece of software though!

Re: rapid Terragen update to v0.9.43

My experience is that creating terrains, adjusting the water level, sun altitude & bearing and picking a good point of view are all fairly straightforward, especially if you leave the numerous settings within the various dialogs at their default. The tricky bit is creating surface maps to get that realistic look. Fortunately there are lots of .srf files out there you can download and again use as defaults so it isn't that hard to create something pleasing quite quickly.

I think the most important advice I can offer is "Take your time." No matter how tempting it is to mess with the thousand and one settings all at once, just don't! Read and work through the numerous tutorials that are available to learn about all those features.
