Importing dropdown box into EXcel (2000)

I would like to create a dropdown list in Excel which allows me to choose from names on a list.
See attachment for the names l would like to include on the dropdown.
Can you tell me the easiest way to import this drop down into this spreadsheet as l only want to use it when l sort the data.

From where do you want to "import this drop down"?

And what would you want to do with the chosen item?

Leave it as selected on the dropdown.

You can use Data | Validation with the List option if you want to limit what a user can enter into a cell. You can also use a combo box from the Control Toolbox (or from the Forms toolbar, but that works slightly differently)

If Data | Validation suits your purpose, I'd go with that since it doesn't cause a macro warning.

Re: Importing dropdown box into EXcel (2000)

Activate the sheet that contains the list of names.
    Select the list of names.
Select Insert | Name | Define...
Type a name for the list, for example MyList.
    Click OK.
Activate the sheet where you want the dropdown.
Select the cell or cells where you want the dropdown.
    Select Data | Validation...
Select List from the Allow dropdown list.
Type =MyList in the Source box.
    Activate the Error Alert tab.
Enter an error message to be displayed if the user enters an incorrect value.
If you don't want the user to be able to enter other values, select the Stop style.
    Click OK.
A dropdown arrow will appear if the active cell has List validation set.

    Hans,

I am trying to get this to work but cannot get the drop down to work.
I must be doing something wrong somewhere but cannot work out what.
The values which l require to use are in sheet1 and they will be need to be placed in the
    "Who raised Lot" column.
    see attachment.

I can get the drop down working but for some reason it shows "mylist" as a value on the dropdown.
    see attachment.

Did you include the equal sign(=)?

It should be "=Mylist" (no quotes)

    not just "Mylist"

Re: Importing dropdown box into EXcel (2000)

The name is just "namelist" no equal (you are defining the name)

In the datavalidation the source should have the equal (since it refers to the name)
