Data Cleanup (XP/2003)

    Hello,

This one is tricky for me. I have a column in a spreadsheet that has 2 types of data separated by spaces. The spacing varies. I am trying to write a formula that keeps the left side of the data and eliminates the spaces and the data to the right (SZ121D). I have attached the spreadsheet for your viewing pleasure.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Assuming that the second part always begins with SZ and is separated from the first part by at least one space:
Enter the following formula in B2:

=TRIM(LEFT(A2,FIND(" SZ",A2)))

Fill down to the last item.
If you want to delete the original data:
With the formulas in column B2 still selected, select Edit | Copy, then select Edit | Paste Special..., Values option and click OK.
You can now move the selection to column A (overwriting the original data), or delete column A.

    Hans,

This worked like a charm. I've now learned about "TRIM". THanks!
