Outlook with AOL IM (Outlook Express)

When I am starting Outlook - AOL IM automatically starts and I can't find what triggering it. AOL is not my Internet provider.
    Any ideas? Thanks

Have you set Outlook Express as your default mail handler?

When in OE, click on tools>Accounts>Internet accounts>mail.
Highlight Outlook Express and click " set as default"

Have you looked in Outlook Express , not Internet Explorer tools?
That's where the options are. I have IE 6 also.

As I said ... Outlook is my ONLY (default) email account.
Even if it wasn't how does it explains assosiation with OAL IM?
    Thanks

Have it your way but you are contradicting yourself.

Is it Outlook OR Outlook Express?
    Is it AOL or OAL?
Have you EVER had AOL or OAL(?) on your machine?

Re: Outlook with AOL IM (Outlook Express)

How am I 'contradicting' myself by having a problem I'd described?
I haven't done nothing, I was just asking if anyone ever had the same problem and if it was possible for them to correct it.
Yes, it is 'AOL' IM and if you are going to dwell on typos - have it your way...and no I never had AOL as Internet Provider on my machine.

Thanks and I am still waiting for solution.

    Rebel,
thanks a million. How did you find this? It was exactly what I was looking for. I am not good with IM at all, my kids are using it so when I need computer - it drives me up a wall to wait to close IM.
Thanks again and have a great week!!!

Re: Outlook with AOL IM (Outlook Express)

It's not the problem you're having that's the cause of the contradictions, it's the references you're using.

    1) "Outlook" and "Outlook Express" are two entirely different programs - the first comes with Microsoft Office, the second with Windows itself - people will get confused if you insist on using the names interchangeably
    2) Although I don't know of a program called "OAL" it's all too likely that there is one, so you can't blame people for checking whether you intended to say that when you t yped it.
    3) AOL does many things apart from being an internet provider and is one of the most insidious and irritatingly pervasive programs around - you'd be surprised what it can affect, and where it'll appear on machines that ostensibly never had it at all!
    3) IE, whichever version, is an internet browser, not a mail handler, and as such has nothing to do problems with email.

I have to admit I sympathise with Viking33 here - he was trying to help and all you did was get irritated when he asked for clarification. Please try to remember that people here are volunteers, not paid support personnel.
