    Network traffic (XP SP2)

The network connected icon in the system tray sometimes shows constant traffic for long periods of time, even when no programs are active. I can only assume this is Windows downloading (but not installing) an upgrade/patch. Is there any way to see what the network is doing and with whom?

You can use the Task Manager to see what process is using the CPU. If you are using a third party firewall you can most likely use it to see the network activity.

All kinds of "services" will use the network, i.e., your AV, Windows, pop up blockers, spyware and etc, to get their updates based on the settings within the programs. These program need NOT be running, just the services set in the registry.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
