    Try the following: in Internet Explorer, select Tools | Internet Options...
    Activate the Programs tab, and click Reset Web Settings...
    Clear the Also reset my home page box, then click Yes.
    You will probably have to restart Windows.

    Do you get the same problem if you copy the hyperlink and paste it into the address space in the browser? You might need to use Insert>Hyperlink or toggle the field code using Alt+F9 to copy the true destination of the link.

    HansV's suggestion of using the IE turned out to solve my problem. Now I can be in a document with a link to a web site, point to the link, hold down the control key and click the mouse key. The web site appears.
