XP pst to 2000 pst (2000 SP3)

Someone has kindly redone the contacts card. They did all 4000 using Outlook XP. We use Outlook 2000. Is there anyway I can salvage these cards as I cannot import the pst file.

Outlook 2000 should be able to open a .pst file created in Outlook 2002. Have you made sure in Windows Explorer that the .pst file doesn't have the Read-Only attribute set? Outlook cannot work with read-only files.

You could ask the person who created the file to export the contacts to a text file or Excel file; Outlook 2000 shouldn't have problems with that.

If the PST file was moved from one system to another via a cd or dvd, then when it is copied to the last system from the cd it will be a read-only file. Indeed, Outlook can not import from a Read only file. Right click on the PST file in the Windows Explorer, and change the attribute to be no longer read only. You should be able to import the data without any further problems.

I checked, and the files are not read only. We're still working on it, and I shall respond once we have a solution or figure out what happened.

What error message are you getting when you try to import the file?

Sorry to take so long getting back. The error I kept getting was about compatibility. The solution was to create a legacy file. Open the pst file in Outlook XP then transfer the contact cards into it then transfer it back to my pc. Seemed to work.
