MS Wireless keyboard - F Lock

I like using function keys. (I still like to use F12 for Save As for instance, or F5 for refresh). My MS wireless keyboard uses those keys for other things unless you press the F Lock key, when they work as good old-fashioned function keys. Is there any way of making it start up with F Lock on like there is for Num Lock?

I don't have a MS, Ian, rather a Logitech wireless KB. Since this is my second one over the years and I don't need or want all the function provided in the extra bells and whistles buttons, I got around your problem by NOT installing the Logitech software. Windows XP recognizes the keyboard just fine and all twelve function keys work as you describe (their standard actions). What's funny about it is that several of the peripheral buttons work as well, even WITHOUT the Logitech drivers or software. I don't know if you could do the same thing with a MS brand.

I purchased (for my wife) the wireless keyboard / mouse combo from Microsoft with the F-Lock key.

I've found that by enabling the F-Lock once, it has saved the state of the F-lock mode.

Now.. what happens after a power outage, I couldn't tell you (yet).

It doesn't remember it with mine, I'm afraid - hence the question.

Thanks, Leif. That is very interesting indeed and I will experiment. (It also explains why Chris Baldrey said his keyboard retained the F Lock status through a reboot while mine did not - they changed that from September 2004.)
