    Excel Task Pane Disappears

I'm having the same problem Woody had with his Word task pane disappearing on startup except it happens in excel <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15>. I thought that maybe I could fix it similarly by making sure nothing was in any of Excel's startup folders. This did not work. Any ideas or similar problems?

    Re: Excel Task Pane Disappears

One possible cause is that task panes have been set not to show at start up. If this is the case to rectify it do the following.

Select File>New and this should bring up the new workbook taskpane. Select show at startup from the bottom of the pane.

    Paris,

Just curious, but what exactly do you mean by Excel's 'task pane'. My English is running short here (maybe you can explain it in French. You know, I am living only 250km away from 'Paris')
Are you referring to toolbars or commandbars?

    Hans,

Task Panes are part of Office XP. I have learned this from reading Woody's Office newsletter. However, since I have Office 2000, I have never seen a task pane, and don't really know what they are about.

    Thanks Ken,

I am using Excel 2000, Dutch version, and was really trying to find out how this 'task pane' could be translated into something that is available in my Excel version. Couldn't find it, so I was wondering if my English was running short or if I was unaware of some method or property of Excel.

fenetre de tache? would that work? But more importantly Hans, even though I think somebody else has already said this somewhere else, your english is a lot better than most "native english speakers" (for want of a better expression!) - mine included.

And I always though Paris was in Texas.

Sorry Brooke and Michael, both wrong. As you can read from her Post, Paris is in California.

    Re: Excel Task Pane Disappears

Only nine months to find the answer! - but if you are still looking for the solution:

XL2002: Task Pane Disappears When You Start Excel (Q293820)

Basically, if you already have a personal.xls loaded at startup:

On the Tools menu, point to Macro , and then click Visual Basic Editor .
In the Project Explorer window, click the + sign next to VBAProject (PERSONAL.XLS) .
NOTE : If the Project Explorer is not visible, click Project Explorer on the View menu.
Click the + sign next to Microsoft Excel Objects .
    Double-click This Workbook .
In the code window that opens, type the following code: <pre>Private Sub Workbook_Open()

    On Error Resume Next
    Application.CommandBars("Task Pane").Visible = True

    End Sub</pre>
