    Limit printing! (Word 2000 >)

    Hi all,

Can anyone help with some code to limit printing of a certain word doc. (Similar to a dongle?!)

    I need code to:
Allow printing only 20 copies of a document.
After 20 copies are printed, it code must lock the doc so that the user can not even open the doc again.

    Can this be done?
    TIA
    Regards,
    Rudi

Following is a blurb re MS's Information Rirghts Management :

Information Rights Management (IRM) helps prevent sensitive documents and e-mail messages from being forwarded, edited or copied by unauthorized users. To use IRM you need to install Windows Rights Management client. This lets document creators set policies on the reading, copying, or printing of documents created in Office 2003 Enterprise or Professional Editions. Other versions of Word can receive these documents, but only these two editions can create documents with IRM features.

Re: Limit printing! (Word 2000 >)

    What about the following scenarios:
    - User makes a fresh copy of the document each time, and opens/prints the copy instead of the original.
    - User copies the text of the document into a new document.
    - User prints the document to a PDF file.
All of these circumvent the limit you want to set.
In other words, a determined user will be able to find ways around almost any measure you take.

I am aware of that. There is not much I can do about that other than rely on the integrity and honesty of the client. The document will contain training material. In the event of the client printing the doc. "illegally" I cannot stop them. The data is not confidential by nature.

    Thx for the concern!

    Hi Redbeard,
Do you have more info about this? A web page or more details about IRM!
    Tx

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

Must have MS Office 2003 Professional and Windows Server software to create these docs. There is a huge gaping hole in this- nothing prohibits you from doing a screen print or using software such as SnagIt to circumvent these restrictions.

    Tx for the link.
(As I said to Hans, the security issue is not that intense!)
