Outlook.pst is not a personal folders file (Outlook 2003 (11.6359.6408))

I've googled till me fingers bled. I've also searched this topic. This is the story.

WinXP-Pro was running Office XP (with Outlook XP). Upgraded Office XP to Office 2003 some months ago. Due to other performance reasons and being a geek, I decided to rebuild the software on the PC - fresh install. Including Outlook 2003 with a new Outlook.pst.

I copied the Outlook.pst file from the appropriate location to a DVD.

I rebuilt the PC and installed a fresh copy of Office 2003. Now I cannot import the previous Outlook.pst.

I've copied the file to disk, made sure the read only bit was not set. Even renamed the file.

I get the following error message: "Outlook.pst is not a personal folders file"

I have tried numerous things including scanpst.exe which would not open the file. ("The Inbox Repair Tool does not recognize the file. No information can be recovered") I tried creating several WinXP profiles using other login identities that I might have used and that was no good.

None of the help online was very useful or applicable. I need this data. I'll even pay for a tool to work correctly.

I'll take any and all suggestions. Like I said I've tried everything.

    Thank you (in advance) <img src=/S/thankyou.gif border=0 alt=thankyou width=40 height=15>

You might want to test these programs. Not cheap, but if you really need the data...

    Recovery for Outlook from OfficeRecovery.com

EasyRecovery EmailRepair from Ontrack Data Recovery

Hopefully they will be able to read the file. If not, then it sounds as though there might be something drastically wrong with it.

Thanks for the links. I tried both and neither worked. OfficeRecovery has a form where you could ask them to do it. We'll see. Thanks, again.
