    Opera now free (8.5)

Good news for those who like using alternative browsers, Opera is now <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> with no more ad banner.

Nice find, Tony. I think I'll try it out, especially since this review raves about it's speed. <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>

    Re: Opera now free (8.5)

Super! I've been using Opera for two days now (in lieu of Firefox 1.07), and find it quite usable. It loads very quickly, and seems to be able to bring up any page that is requested. Some time ago, Langa reported that Opera had problems with certain pages, but that seems to be not true in this version (8.5). If I can figure out how to move the 'Rewind' button, i.e., the History button, somewhere where I don't accidentally click on it, I may just use Opera on a full-time basis. Thanks, Tony. Finding a free copy of Opera made my week!

So what was the point of all the fuss a week or two ago giving out free registrations for 24 hours only to celebrate their 10th anniversary?

Does Opera peacefully co-exist with IE and Firefox?

What problems do you find with Opera? Or, put another way, what does Firefox do better?
    Thanks,

I do not have time to discuss Opera, but I'll mention two things:

    1. Opera is not fully supported by some web sites important to me and many other folkes.
    2. Not enough flexibility in handling cookies. Firefox is much better at this.

    Re: Opera now free (8.5)

A question about how an FF user can try out Opera. After installing Opera, I tried to use its import facility
in order to have my full set of FF bookmarks. (File > Import and Export > Import Netscape/Firefox bookmarks)
I had a lot of trouble, and in one case I saw a fleeting message
that some hundreds had been added, which would be about right, but I can't even find them in Opera.
I must say the interface is rather confusing.
So, I must be overlooking something, in my import attempts. I couldn't find the answer to what in my
web searches so far. Does anyone know?
Now that Opera is free, it might prehaps be worthwhile facilitating people's having experience with both.

    ihad he same problem.

indeed, i imported twice and ended up with two sets of "Netscape bookmarks".

Turns out the "Netscape bookmarks" were placed under "Opera" in the bookmark tree, so I found them and deleted one set.

Thanks. I'm not sure what I did wrong initially, but I have them all (3K) now. I went to the bookmark page,
saved them onto my desktop as an htm/html file (usually I save as mht, and maybe that was the trouble.)
    And then imported.
