Multiple Addresses for One Contact (MSO 2003)

I thought I had multiple contacts showing up...

What I in fact have, is, if I start a new message, and click to "To" button", in the listing I'm seeing all the emails for each contact...

Is there a way to set a default email, and have only that one show for each Contact? Or how do I enter multiple email addresses for a contact without them all showing in the "To list? Or a telephone list for that matter?

I do want to store the additional addresses, but may only need them in emergencies or some such rare occasion...

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Tricky, ain't it? In native Outlook you can't prevent all addresses from displaying in the address books - MS designed it this way so you could have a choice.

If you select "New message to Contact" from Contact(s) selected in the Contacts Folder you'll get a message addressed to the first address in the list.

If you use the Address book all addresses for a contact will show. I generally handle this by giving a different display name to each address for one contact, such as (hypothetical):

    JohnBF - AOL
    JohnBF - Work
    JohnBF - GMAIL

There may be some aftermarket tools to help you - look in Slipstick and Sperry Software.

    >Or a telephone list for that matter

That I can't help you with - I don't use the 'dial from computer' capabilities of Outlook.

    John:

    Oh-Ho...

I just went to my Contacts list, right-clicked, picked "New Message to Contact", and know what?

IT STARTED A MESSAGE TO ALL the ADDRESSES.

Where the hell's my pen -- no, make that a pencil, since they don't run outa ink and I can sharpen them with a knife... and paper???

    John:

Also... Yes, I use the naming convention as well... I was just looking for a way to cut my list from 1762 name down ot about 400.

    John:

I've got a feeler out to Sperry Software... I looked around Slipstick, but the one item I found that might work, Agent 121 (?), When I went to get pricing, all I got was a blank page... So that's a "no-answer" as yet.

Re: Multiple Addresses for One Contact (MSO 2003)

I figured out my other confusion ... kind of. If you select multiple Contacts and then select Actions | New message to Contact - it selects the first address of each Contact; but if you select only one Contact it selects all addresses for that Contact. Don't ask me why MS does it that way.
