    Forum Favorites

OK, I give up. What are Favorite Forums and how do I use them? Looking in the help files, all I can find is:

"Favorite Forums - Forums you have marked for special notice "

That is about as usefull as a dead battery.

    Re: Forum Favorites

There are a couple icons at the bottom left of the main forum page. The icon on the left allows you to place a forum in your favorites list.

Then, to view the favourite forums, click on the "Control" link at the top.

If you use the forums page a lot, you can set the main page to be forums or the control page when you log on (Control, "Edit your display preferences", and about 4th option down). Previously, you were only taken into the mail page.

    Re: Forum Favorites

This is a great new feature. I tend to check just 6 of the boards on a regular basis, so have added those 6 to my favorites and set my preferences to enter control panel at logon and voila!, I can see immediately if any of those boards have new messages without having to search through the whole main index.

    Cheers

    Re: Forum Favorites

That's a nice description of how 'Favorites' work. I'll borrow it, if I may, to add to the FAQ/

    Re: Forum Favorites

Eileen: If I just leave the Lounge without logging out and return later, the option to enter the Control Panel at login seems to be ignored. I always enter at the Main Index. I know I am technically not logging in, but the option does not seem to be much good to those of us that never log out.

    Re: Forum Favorites

    Legare,

How do you enter the forum?

If it's by your "favorites", just change your favorites page to the new control forum.

I've gotten lazy myself. I've always typed in "wopr" in the url, and then left it for IE to give me the list. I hit the "up" arrow key, and the default forum login is just about the last one on the list.

But, if you go in via the "<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com>http://www.wopr.com</A>" front page- that's something different, that would rely on Eileen to change something.

For myself, I'm going to use the favorites from now on.

    Re: Forum Favorites

I have always used a favorite to take me to the Lounge. I used <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/wwwthreads.pl?Cat=>http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/wwwthreads.pl?Cat=</A> to take me to the Main Index. However, with the addition of Favorites, I use <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/login.pl?Cat=#fave>http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/login.pl?Cat=#fave</A> to take me to the Favorites section on the "Control" page.

    Re: Forum Favorites

I was using a button on my Address bar that took me to <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/wwwthreads.pl?Cat=>http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/wwwthreads.pl?Cat=</A> . I'll give your alternative a try.

    Re: Forum Favorites

I haven't got around to playing with this yet as I prefer to go to the Main Index but your link sounds good. I'll experiment and add something to the HELP/FAQ pages.

    Re: Forum Favorites

Mummy, this was mentioned in a thread I have since lost track of, but why does adding a forum to favorites create a whole new board category if you add, say, Access and VB/VBA in separate sessions? They both come up under Microsoft Office, but now I have *two* Microsoft Office categories, each with one forum under it. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

It doesn't sound right to me either. I'll check if it happens on Scream's boards as well, and stop it doing that somehow.

    Re: Forum Favorites

Just thought I'd point out here that <img src=/S/eileen.gif border=0 alt=eileen width=17 height=15> fixed the problem with the categories in the most straightforward way possible ... eliminated the categories! Now we just have forums, which take up less real estate.
