    Windows components error (Windows XP Pro SP2)

    I am trying to clean up a friends PC and some of the items I need are normally accessed fro the "Windows Components" screen. However, on his computer when ever I click the "Add/Remove Windows Components" button on the "Add or Remove Programs" window I get a Pop-Up error indicating that "Another copy of this setup program is running. Please wait until the other setup is completed before attempting to run this program again"
    The thing is that, I do not have any other programs, installs, & or updates running. I am attempting this as a first operation after a full power down reboot. I am running the latest version of Norton Anti virus and have compete a full system scan and found no viruses reported. I have also run Ad-Aware SE 1.2 and no reported sypware. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    The Windows Update may be running as it checks on startup.

    Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    I have tried accessing the Windows components tab on numerous occasions on this system from right after boot up to after running a few application to several hours after boot up. But the results are always the same.........

    If you go to Start/Run & type
    msconfig
    <enter>
    you can go to the startup tab & see what's loading on startup. If something doesn't immediately pop out at you, you could go to startup lists & see what everything does? Maybe this will find the problem.

    If you open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) do you have any processes running called setup or msiexec?
