    Decorating with ladders

I am decorating the alley outside my house at the moment. Mrs J wants me to paint the walls on either side.

I have two ladders, one 2 metres long and the other 3 metres long. If I put the base of the 2 metre ladder on one side of the alley and lean it against the opposite wall and the 3 metre ladder the opposite way, they form a cross. The point where they cross is 1 metre above the ground.

How wide is the alley by the side of my house?

    sounds like you could paint both at the same time... | <img src=/S/flatcat.gif border=0 alt=flatcat width=61 height=21>| now all you need are 2 paint rollers <img src=/S/artist.gif border=0 alt=artist width=34 height=29>
