    Resetting Numbers in Headings (XP)

I am trying to use numbered headers to make a numbered list of items. I have the main items as Heading 2 and then Heading 3 and Heading 4 under them. Everything works execpt that I want the Heading 3 item numbers to reset each time they are used but they continue. For example, in the attached list, I have:

    1. MBA Program
    1. Enrollment/Promotion
    2. 5000 level courses
    A. Do we have the right number of courses
    B. How well are the courses covering the material
    C. Does it make sense to have a departmental final

among others. Now, when I get to another list:

    3. Adjuncts
    4. How should we be selecting them
    5. How should we be deciding which courses to assign them
    6. How should we be monitoring their ongoing performance

I would like the list to start over with #1 rather than beginning with #4 but I cannot make it do that. I can right click on the 4 and try to reset the numbering but that option is grayed out. (It will, however, work just fine on #5. Strange.) Any suggestions?

I have modified your document to use Outline numbering for the headings, and this seems to work OK.

Have a look at this article for more information about how to use heading numbers.

The article said it could drive you crazy and it was right. I worked on it for a long time before I posted it. The article was great and I appreciate your fixing the dcoument for me.

    Thanks
