Reading old Netscape posts (Mozilla/ Thunderbird)

A relative asked me how he could read his old Netscape mails. I know he is using either Moz or an "older" Thunderbird version. The method I suggested (attached) is something like what I used many moons ago, to read the old NS mails in a new NS installation. I'm wondering though,

    1) Will it work with Mozilla/ Thunderbird?

    2) Is there a better alternative?

    thanks

Not sure if it is a better method, but this Migrate from Netscape to Thunderbird article has some hints, as well as a link to this MBoxImport extension.

    Hi Alan:
I read your attachment. Your relative doesn't need the *.snm files. Those are summary files & Netscape will rebuild them. If your friend copies all the files without an extension (e.g. Inbox, Sent, etc.), they can do one of two things:
    1. After they've set up a profile in Thunderbird, copy all those old files into the correct folder (the one containing Inbox, etc.). i.e. they will replace all the newer files.
    2. Rename Inbox, etc. to Inbox2, Sent2, etc. & then copy. All the old emails will be there.
    3. To the extent that the emails are in plain text or contain plain text, you can read them with any text editor (or even MS Word - convert from plain text).
    Cheers,

Thanks Phil. I always thought the summary files were required - didn't realize they'd be rebuilt. I'll pass on all that useful info.

    cheers

    Hi Phil

Finally got round to doing this today on Mozilla. It all worked as planned, and without the summary files, as you suggested.

    cheers
