    Hide Background Pages (XP)

    Hi,
Is it possible to hide background pages. Or protect the objects on the background page so others cannot delete or modify the items that display on the foreground pages!

    Tx

Do you need password level protection or are you trying to avoid innocent changes. I don't know of a method of password protecting the content on background pages but...

When you apply a background page to a foreground page and you edit the foreground page the background is unselectable and therefore protected somewhat from alteration.

If you want to avoid the user from being able to select items on the background page itself then you can apply protection from selection and deletion by right-clicking the objects. Another possible method would be to put the items on the background page onto a Layer that is protected.

    Re: Hide Background Pages (XP)

Thx for the reply. My question originated from a query of a client. They wanted to prevent users of visio from changing the position and size of objects on a background page that set up a comapny header with logo and fields for page no and file path. They wanted to know if they could hide the b/g page like you can in excel. If that was not possible to protect it some other way!

You answer does give some good advice regarding locking the object properties, or using layers...(this will work)...except for advanced users who know how to unlock or switch off the layer locking.

Thx for the advice, and I will certainly use it. I take from your reply that there is no password protection capability or sheet hiding features. ( <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>...maybe in the next version???)

    Tx Andrew

    Re: Hide Background Pages (XP)

I just had a look in VBA and couldn't find a Hidden property for the pages so I assume that the page tab cannot be hidden through code. Perhaps there is a way but I don't do much work with Visio so I am a long way off being an authority on what can be done.

Hold the phone: I had a look in Google Groups and found that it can be done easily but that you will need code to undo it. Testing this on my Visio 2003 machine worked nicely. The secret is to open the page's Shapesheet and Set the UIVisibility to 1

Andrew, many thx for the link. I'll give this a try too, as this will certainly provide more security to the B/G page! If this works well I will most definetly use this method in future!
    Cheers

Andrew. I went to the Window menu and I activated the Show hapeSheet. I did not see the UIVisibility property. Do you know if this is only for Visio 2003??

Perhaps it is only for Visio 2003 - I don't have an earlier version loaded here so I cant check. In this version I get a few extra Page Properties from the screen capture you attached.
