    Download counter (Frontpage 2003)

    hi, I am just starting to use frontPage so my knowledge is minimal.

    I am looking for a way to add counters for several dowmloads on my site. I have searched this site & not found an answer.
    Someone suggested diverting to a hidden page with a hidden Hit Counter. I can insert a Hit Counter, not sure how to hide it. However, I cannot see how to use a hyperlink to open the page & trigger the download.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Well, I'd set the hit counter inside a paragraph hidden using css
    p.hidden {visibility: hidden}

    but - I'm still not sure how this would help with the download counter. The hit counter shows how often a page has been visited and can be fudged by repeated refresh viewing of the page. Most download counters are operated on the server end and the service provider gives you the stats.

    Your host (if your site is commercially hosted) should provide you some kind of logs showing the number of file accesses for each file. If you don't plan to display the information on a page, so you don't need a fancy control or a separate file storing the information, perhaps this is the most reliable hit count?
