Dial up icon missing from task bar

For some unknow reason when l dial up on the internet the icon is missing from the task bar.
I am a bit be-mused as it used to appear but for some reason does not show up any more.
The only l can disconnet from the internet is by re-booting the PC which is a bit long winded.
Is there anyway l can get the internet icon to re-appear so l can just click on it to disconnet from the internet?

You didn't say what operating system?

Here's one selection that could "toggle" the problem away: How to Enable or Disable the Dial-Up Networking Connection Icon on the System Tray

The following is for Windows XP. In the control panel under Network Connections, right click on the relevant connection for your modem and select Properties. On the General tab make sure "Show icon in notification area when connected" is selected.
